RED SNAPPER SPORTS SCHOOL OF SUP

"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure".

Colin Powell

As we start to put the long dark nights and shivering cold days behind us, Spring has officially sprung, the clocks have gone forward and the sun is shining!

Red Snapper Sports launches its ‘School Of SUP’ on Monday 1st April, from its base in Shoreham By Sea, West Sussex. It’s our aim to make sure that when you decide to take the plunge (excuse the pun) that you do it safe in the knowledge that you are equipped to understand everything there is to know, so that you get the most out of your water based adventure!

Why have lessons?

When ever you take up a sport or hobby, that relies heavily on your cooperation and understanding of Mother Nature, you have to learn a full spectrum of skills. This ranges from understanding weather patterns, tides, hidden water dangers, techniques and who to call and what to do if you get in to danger or if you see others that are in danger. Red Snapper Sports will ensure that you are water ready, meaning that your level of skills and enjoyment will accelerate.

THE "ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS" COURSE

This course is aimed at adults who have never stand up paddled before or for people who have had a go but want to learn the basics properly and in a safe and friendly environment.

What will you learn?

Weather and Environment - The first part of your lesson will be about the weather. It will include what to look out for when planning your time on the water, using weather apps, weather forecasts, and what signs to look for when you are on the water, in terms of quickly changing weather conditions, which is a common feature especially on UK waters. We will also include information on tides and how these are affected by monthly lunar cycles and how they will affect your paddle positively and negatively.

Know your kit - We will go through the equipment you will need, why you need it, how to look after it and best practices.

SUP Skills - A short land based lesson will demonstrate the different manoeuvres as well as how how to carry your board correctly and then finally we will head to the water to put in to practice what you have learnt on land - including paddling techniques (lying, kneeling and standing) different types of turns, self rescues and how to fall safely.

How long will the lesson last - your lesson will take around two hours, with approximately - 60 - 90 minutes of this being on the water, depending on your fitness. Once you have completed your course, we will give you Red Snapper Sports Certificate Of Competence, together with a short hand book, that you can refer back to at any time.COST:
