10 POSITIVE CHANGES YOU CAN MAKE

TO DO YOUR BIT FOR THE PLANET

AND THE OCEANS

#WorldEnvironmentDay

"Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty, advancing economic growth... these are one and the same fight. We must connect the dots between climate change, water scarcity, energy shortages, global health, food security and women's empowerment. Solutions to one problem must be solutions for all"

Ban Ki-moon

Today, as part of our series of inspirational blogs to celebrate World Oceans Day this coming weekend, we pay our respects to another huge global movement taking place today. World Environment Day marks its 75th Anniversary this year and is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. This years theme is "Air Pollution" and the country host is China.

There have been some landmarks to celebrate over the years - a full list of which can be found here.

The Wild Side delves in to the subject of "Carbon Off-setting" as we take you on a visual journey of discovery and present to you ten very easy steps you can take, to make a huge difference to the wonderful planet we call home. Planet Earth.

Plant a tree in your garden or at the local park. One tree can offset about one metric ton of carbon dioxide in its lifetime.

Add air-purifying indoor plants in the house such as palms, peace lilies, ferns, schefflera, and anthuriums.

Take the Plastic Free Challenge and eliminate the big four from your life FOREVER!

Sign up for a beach clean at your nearest sea-side spot!

Start your "Re-fill" journey today. Download the app. There are literally hundreds of stations popping up everywhere.

This one's a biggie. We have all heard it before, but it doesn't hurt to hear it again!

Save energy and switch off the lights. Use LED/solar lights wherever possible it can reduce 278 kilos of carbon dioxide emissions in a year.

Save water. Turning off the tap when brushing teeth can save up to 6 litres of water per minute.

Turn off your ignition if you're waiting more than 10 seconds. Contrary to popular belief, restarting your car does not burn more fuel than leaving it idling.

Switch up your car journey for a bike ride. Not only is this great for the planet, you truly get to appreciate the beautiful world we live in, whilst breathing in the lovely fresh air.

Be pro-ocean, pro-environment, pro-energy conservation and pro-nature this World Environment Day. Make environmentally conscious choices this World Environment Day.
